University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Founded in 1867, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a comprehensive land-grant institution whose mission is to provide undergraduate and graduate education, conduct research, and support extension, continuing education, and other public engagement activities. The campus community includes approximately 32,000 undergraduate students, 12,000 graduate and professional students, 2,000 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 3,800 academic professionals, and 4,200 staff members.

The campus has been offering Blackboard learning management software to campus users since about 2000. Today, Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services (CITES) offers Illinois Compass 2g powered by Blackboard Learn 9.1 to all faculty, students and staff. For the spring 2013 semester, approximately 1929 timetable courses (registrar-affiliated spaces) use Compass 2g with the following user-by-role breakdown: 1749 instructors 895 teaching assistants, 36,152 students, 92 course builders and 88 course graders. Moodle, LON-CAPA, i>clicker and Respondus are among many other additional instructional technologies that are used by instructors.
